How to Phrazz
Four to six phrases are hiding in that grid, plus one
nobody tells you about. Find them all before you run out of Pizzazz.
THE BOARD
Read it like a page
Left to right, top to bottom, wrapping onto the next line — exactly the
way you are reading this. Phrases run along that line with the spaces
taken out, and can wrap around the end of a row mid-word.
Every letter is real
There is no padding. Every single cell belongs either to a hidden phrase
or to the Matazz, so nothing you find is wasted.
WHAT IS HIDDEN
The phrases
All tied to today's theme, which is shown at the top of the screen. That
much you get for free.
The Matazz
One more phrase, its words scattered in order through the gaps between
the others. It says what today's puzzle is really about, and
nobody tells you what it is. It owns the color blue — nothing else on
the board is ever blue.
GUESSING
A letter
Turns over every copy of it on the board at once.
A word
Turns over that word everywhere it appears.
Part of a phrase
Counts for what it covers. You do not have to produce a whole phrase to
be paid for the part you know.
Letters inside words
Count too. Guess THE and you will light the one hiding inside
FEATHERS, as well as the real one.
READING THE BOARD
Arrows mark the ends
When a revealed tile is the first or last letter of a phrase, a small
arrow points into the rest of it. Collect a few and the board starts
telling you where things begin and end.
Color is the payoff
Letters stay black while their phrase is unfinished. The instant a
phrase is complete, it snaps to its own color.
The alphabet remembers
Solid means untouched. Outlined means you have seen that letter but
copies are still hidden. Faded means every one is up, and guessing it
costs nothing.
WINNING AND LOSING
To win
Turn over every phrase and the Matazz.
To lose
Run out of Pizzazz. You start with 16, and guessing costs.
Anything you already knew is always free.
The red heart
Appears beside your Pizzazz when you are down to four or fewer. Two more
wrong swings and it is over.
